Each scheme is carefully structured to build on prior learning, helping pupils love your lessons even more as they move through the key stages. Younger learners might start by exploring basic colour mixing or making simple collages, while older pupils can develop more advanced skills like perspective, shading and sculpture.
These Art lesson plans provide opportunities for children to experiment, reflect and express their ideas in the way they visualise them.

Primary Art Resources FAQs
Can I use these art lesson plans with mixed-age groups?
Yes, many of our schemes of work are designed specifically to be taught in mixed-age classes, and are created to be suitable for a phase, rather than a year group. However, any of our schemes can be easily adapted to be taught in a mixed-age class, thanks to the differentiated activity ideas provided as standard. With a wide range of abilities and learning styles, it’s easy to simplify or extend learning as needed within your class.
How do I know if children are making progress?
You can easily track progress with the editable assessment grid that is provided with each of our primary Art schemes of work. This assessment grid highlights the three assessment questions listed on each lesson plan, allowing you to easily keep track of children’s learning.
Do I need to buy specialist art materials?
Most of the activities within our Art curriculum can be done with the resources that most primary schools will have in their art cupboard. However, occasionally, there may be an activity where specialist materials need to be purchased. In most cases, an alternative activity is provided in case these resources are not able to be accessed.
If you would like to check which materials are needed for each lesson, you can check the free overview provided with each scheme of work. The overview details both the PlanBee resources included within the lesson, as well as any other materials (such as paints, chalks, clay or tools) that are required.
Do your primary art resources link to the curriculum?
Yes, all our primary Art lesson packs link to the National Curriculum Art objectives for KS1 and KS2. To see which lessons cover which particular objective, you can use our handy Objective Checker tool.
