In this first lesson, children will learn about ‘The Story of Nian’ and discover how Chinese New Year traditions originated. They will then retell the tale using story cards or their own words. In the alternative activity, children will enjoy designing and making their own Chinese lantern.

#Lesson2TheChineseCalendar

This lesson introduces your class to the Chinese Calendar. They will find out how each year got its name, and discover the different personalities of each animal. Children are then challenged to create their own Chinese Calendars and find out the animal for their year of birth.

#Lesson3FifteenDaysofFestivities

Children find out all about the various festivities that take place during the Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival. Activities include writing diary entries, creating a multiple choice quiz, or making their own dragon puppet!
