Children have the chance to brush up the times tables knowledge as they work out the function on Fred the Function Machine! Children are challenged to work out firstly what a number has been multiplied or divided by from a given input and output number. They are then challenged to work out any of the missing numbers on the function machine. There's even the opportunity to turn themselves into function machines!

This lesson starts by encouraging children to identify factors of numbers before leading on to some fun and challenging puzzles! Children will use their knowledge of multiplication facts to decipher symbols in the place of numbers. Using a few given clues, children will have to use their reasoning skills as well as their mathematical understanding if they're going to solve these tricky puzzles!

This lesson contains simple but surprisingly informative activities that will really challenge their thinking and develop their understanding of factors and multiples.

Your class will find as many multiplication and division facts as they can for a given number.The slides go through some examples as a class to get them started before giving the chance to see how many facts for a given number they can find for themselves.There's also a fun game that will get them competitively finding as many obscure multiplication and division facts as they can think of!

This lesson introduces your class to Farmer George and some of the problems he is having setting up his farm! Children are challenged to solve a variety of real-life problems involving multiplication and division. The slides go through some example questions, demonstrating how to use the grid method and chunking method to solve multiplication and division problems. There are then plenty of differentiated problems for them to tackle individually.

The final lesson in this series challenges children to help plan a music festival! They will solve a variety of real-life problems, again using the grid method and chunking method to help them solve multiplication and division calculations. Children will need to identify what the question is asking them to do and use their understanding of multiplication and division to answer questions and work out a variety of issues for the planning team!
