The first lesson in this series encourages your class to look at the different shapes and features of a variety of different homes from around the world, from igloos to teepees to detached houses. They will identify shapes within these homes and look at some of the features they may or may not have in common, such as chimneys and doors.

This practical lesson gets your class thinking about the shapes they identified in the previous lesson and use this information to combine different shapes to make the outside of a house using a variety of materials, such as empty boxes and cardboard. With some ideas to get them started shown on the slides, as well as ideas for how to combine the shapes together, your class will then be able to investigate different ways of joining and combining materials to make a house shape.

The sky's the limit in this lesson as your class use their creativity to investigate ways of making some of the interior features of homes out of a variety of materials, such as beds, chairs and decorations.
