#Lesson1GeometicPatterns

Spark your class's interest with this initial Islamic Art KS2 lesson which focuses on the geometric tessellating patterns that are found throughout the genre of Islamic art.

The children will explore where these patterns are found and used by artists and are challenged to recreate their own patterns using similar shapes and designs as the ones they've seen. Extend your class further by asking them to identify how the negative space when using shapes to create patterns can enhance and expand a pattern's motif, especially when the design is tiled together.

This complete lesson comes with everything you need to support your class's learning about geometric Islamic art, including a detailed lesson plan, PDF lesson slides and printable resources to accompany the differentiated activity ideas.

Alternatively, children could use printmaking materials to make a beautiful printed arabesque design.
