In this lesson, children explore why Earth is known as the Blue Planet. They learn about different types of water body, including oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, reservoirs and glaciers, before investigating the difference between fresh water and salt water. Children discover that, although most of Earth's surface is covered by water, only a small amount is fresh water that is easily available for people to use.
They then apply their learning by identifying, classifying and comparing different water bodies through a range of differentiated activities.

Lesson 2: The Water Cycle
In this lesson, children investigate how water moves around the Earth by exploring the stages of the water cycle. They learn how the Sun causes evaporation, how water vapour condenses to form clouds, and how precipitation and collection return water to rivers, lakes, seas and oceans.
