Expose your children to cities around the world and how their skylines are re-created using art with this fantastic 'Cityscapes' scheme of work for Year 5/6! Your class will learn new art techniques and will discover ways to combine these techniques to create their own original pieces of art work.
Throughout this scheme of work children will be introduced to some fabulous artists and their styles and techniques.
These detailed lessons (containing plans, engaging slides, differentiated activity ideas, step-by-step instructions and much more) will have your class loving art and their creative side.
The first lesson in this series is sure to wow your children! They will learn who Charles Fazzino is and how he creates his unique cityscapes. They will explore what 3D pop art is and how it is created before looking at cityscape images and discussing the detail and layers they can see. Children will then get the chance to create their own 3D pop art city!
This lesson looks at a palette knife artist, Leonid Afremov. Children will view stunning cityscape paintings created with palette knives and bright, bold colours. They can then enjoy creating their own palette knives using the detailed instructions which they will use to paint different textures to represent a cityscape.
Creative minds are needed in this lesson as children experiment with how to create different backgrounds for cityscape silhouettes. Photos of cityscapes during different parts of the day are shown in this lesson to get children inspired to use colours and patterns in their artwork. Children will look at light and shading in cityscape silhouettes and will have the opportunity to show this in their art.
Children will get up close and personal with watercolours in this lesson. Some cityscapes show reflections on water and children will learn about some famous cities around the world that are built on and around water. They will learn how to paint with watercolours to create different effects to help them in their artwork. Your class will love the activity in the lesson which requires them to paint a cityscape through a bottle of water, to show its reflection. There is also the chance to use mirrors to create reflections of some famous Asian buildings.
Children will love exploring their creative side in this ink drawing lesson. They will learn that cityscapes can be represented in extreme detail using ink and ink pens. Your class will find out how to create intricate patterns and use them to design a cityscape, filling in skyscrapers and other buildings with interesting lines and patterns.
The final lesson in this scheme of work asks children to be creative, independent artists. They have the freedom to create a cityscape using any art medium. This lesson will engage your children and have them focused on their own thoughts and ideas. Your class will recap all the techniques taught in this scheme of work and have opportunities to share their ideas with others.
