Special Places

Help your class find out about special places all over the world as well as think about what is a special place to themselves and to others. During these five lessons, your class will focus on the different faiths: Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism, and what special places are to the people who follow these religions.

Different Spaces and Places

During this first lesson in the series, your class will explore the various different places that are special to them. Through hands-on and engaging activities the children will think about why these places are special to them, how they make them feel and how the children and others should treat these special places. They will also have the fun opportunity to make a special place within the classroom and share what makes it special with their class.

Explore special religious places of worship for Christians, Muslims and Buddhists. Your class will think about the special places of these particular religions. They will find out about popular special places to visit in the U.K as well as finding out about Buddhist shrines in some people’s homes.

Christian Pilgrimages

Teach your class all about what a pilgrimage is, why someone may go on a pilgrimage and where to. Your class will learn about some special places around the world that Christians like to visit and why they are important to them.

Islamic Pilgrimages

Your class will enjoy learning about some special places around the world that Muslims like to visit and why they are important to them. They will find out about the most important pilgrimage of all, the Hajj, and why it is so special to Muslims.

Buddhist Pilgrimages

Develop your class’s understanding of what a pilgrimage is and find out in this last lesson of the series where some special places around the world are for Buddhists. Your class will also have the opportunity to play an exciting pilgrimage game to consolidate all they have learned during this scheme of work.
