Printing Dinosaur Pictures

In this lesson, your KS1 class learn how to create a dinosaur printing block.

Children will design and make their own dinosaur printing block from polystyrene. They then use this with rollers and printing inks to print on a large sheet of paper to create a repeating image.

In this lesson, children begin by looking at dinosaur artwork by Dmitry Bogdanov. They use artistic vocabulary to describe his paintings and look for similarities between them.

Using an agreed set of success criteria, children then design and make their own picture which is in the same style as Bogdanov. At the end of the lesson children use sentence stems to help them evaluate their work.

Observational Drawing

In this Observational Drawing KS1 lesson, a warm-up in which children go on a pattern hunt around the classroom is designed to get them observing closely.

Children are then taught how to draw a triceratops skull from observation. They learn to draw in the correct proportion by marking the page and also how to add marks to create texture.
