What should children learn in Year 4 Maths?
In Year 4 Maths, children build greater fluency and confidence with number, calculation and mathematical reasoning. They work with increasingly large numbers, develop efficient written and mental calculation methods, secure their multiplication and division facts and extend their understanding of fractions and decimals. Develop number and calculation fluency
Help children develop a secure understanding of numbers beyond 1000, including place value, comparing and ordering numbers, rounding and working with negative numbers. Children should become increasingly confident using mental and written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and recall multiplication and division facts for times tables up to 12 × 12.
Explore fractions and decimals
Extend children's understanding of fractions by recognising equivalent fractions, finding fractions of quantities and adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator.
