Each of the lessons explores a different aspect of landscape art, from linear and atmospheric perspective to ways to use watercolours to create effects, or tearing paper to create collages. Each activity is designed to help build up your children's understanding of mediums and techniques so that by the end of the scheme of work they will have everything they need to create their own amazing landscape art using whichever techniques and mediums they think best suited to the purpose.

#Lesson1LinearPerspective

The first lesson in this Landscape Art scheme of work for KS2 explores how artists create linear perspective in their artwork. Your class will find out about vanishing points, horizon lines and construction lines, and how to use these in their own landscape scenes.

This lesson includes a lesson plan, slideshow for the teaching input, differentiated activity ideas and a range of handy printable resources to support your class as they create linear perspective in their artwork.

#Lesson2Watercolours

No scheme of work about landscape art would be complete without learning about watercolours and how to use them! This lesson shows your KS2 children some examples of famous works of landscape art that have been created with watercolour.

It then goes on to teach your children some tips and tricks about working with watercolours before challenging them to give these a go as they paint a simple watercolour landscape.

There's the option of using some fun techniques involving salt, clingfilm and bubble wrap too!

#Lesson3AtmosphericPerspective

In this lesson, children will think back to what they learnt about linear perspective in the first lesson and build on this by exploring atmospheric, or aerial, perspective.

The included slideshow presentation explains what atmospheric perspective is before demonstrating how children can create this effect for themselves in a simple landscape using tints and shades of a base colour. They can then experiment with different mediums, including watercolours and pastels, to see how each one creates a different effect and to evaluate which they think is most effective.

#Lesson4AbstractLandscapes

After studying a couple of abstract landscapes by famous artists, this fun lesson then goes on to explore how children can create some colourful and creative abstract landscape artwork of their own.

The focus of their abstract landscape artwork is patterns: they will spend some time creating different patterns, thinking about how they can portray the element they are representing with their patterns through line, colour, shape and form.

They can then produce their own abstract landscapes using the patterns they have created.

#Lesson5LandscapeCollage

Creating torn paper collage landscapes is the focus of the fifth lesson in this series as your KS2 class experiment with different ways of tearing and arranging paper to create collage landscapes.

The included slideshow presentation for the teaching input gives your children plenty of guidance and ideas, before children are challenged to have a go for themselves. They can either use their imaginations to create their own collages or undertake the challenge of recreating a landscape from a photo.

#Lesson6CreatingLandscapeArt

In this final lesson the children will draw upon their knowledge and understanding of the mediums and techniques they have looked at so far in order to create their own landscape artwork.

Challenge your class to discuss how they would attempt to recreate an existing painting or piece of art using one, or a mixture of techniques they have studied. Press them further to reason and justify their thoughts and choices of techniques before they begin creating.

This final lesson comes with printable resources to support your class as they complete their artwork as well as a detailed lesson plan, differentiated activity ideas and PDF lesson slides to support your teaching.
