In this observational drawing lesson, a warm up in which children go on a pattern hunt around the classroom is designed to get them really observing closely.

Then, children are taught how to draw a triceratops skull from observation. They learn to draw in the correct proportion by marking the page and also how to add marks to create texture. Some children add shading to show different tones of light and dark whilst others might be ready to use graded pencils.
