#Lesson2ExperimentingwithPointillism

This Experimenting with Pointillism lesson plan recaps what the children have learnt so far about Seurat and Pointillism before giving your KS2 class the chance to experiment with Pointillism for themselves.

The included slideshow presentation shows some examples of how a Pointillist effect can be created using cotton buds, paintbrushes and felt-tips. Your class can then try out these methods for themselves and decide which they like best and which are most effective.

Seurat was very interested in the science of colour and this Optical Colour Mixing KS2 Art lesson teaches your Year 3/4 class about his theories of optical colour mixing and complementary colours.

During their independent activities, your children can then test out these theories for themselves through a range of activities.

#Lesson4Shading

This Pointillism Shading lesson takes a closer look at some of Seurat's Pointillist paintings, looking specifically at how he used Pointillism to create shading.

The slides then show your KS2 children how they can use dots to create areas of light and dark, as well as how to blend colours, before challenging them to practise their Pointillism shading skills independently.

Your class can then either choose one of these Pointillist artists to explore in further detail or create Signac's famous 'Portrait of Félix Fénéon' for themselves.
