My World
The first lesson in this countries and continents KS1 series of lessons explores planet Earth and its continents and oceans. During the teaching input slideshow provided, your class will learn the world is split into seven continents and five oceans. They will then practice naming and locating the continents and oceans, as well as locating the UK is on a world map.
During their independent learning activities, your KS1 class will have the opportunity to create a fun information wheel (using the Wheel Templates provided) to describe which planet, continent, country and house they live in. Alternatively, they can complete a World Jigsaw, or use differentiated worksheets to label World Maps. An easy-to-follow lesson plan is also provided.

The United Kingdom
This United Kingdom KS1 lesson teaches your class about the countries that make up the UK, and gives them the challenge of identifying the capital city of each one. During the slideshow presentation, they will explore each of the capital cities in detail and identify the national flags of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
When working independently, your KS1 class have the opportunity to use Game Cards to match up information about each UK country, answer questions and label maps on differentiated worksheets, using an Information Sheet to support them, and use the Flag Templates to complete the national flags for each of the UK countries.

Country Features
Now that your class can identify the four countries of the UK and their capital cities, it's time for them to investigate each country in more detail. This included slideshow for the whole-class input will teach your class about some of the physical and human geography of each country in the United Kingdom, from national flowers and animals to mountains, landscapes and settlements.
When working independently your class can then either create their own fact sheets about the UK countries or develop their speaking, listening and observation skills by exploring a set of Picture Cards. Our Town
This lesson brings your class closer to home as they investigate their local area. During the teaching input slideshow, your class will learn the difference between villages, towns and cities, as well as defining vocabulary such as 'rural', 'urban' and 'settlement'.
The activities for this lesson give children the chance to then explore their own local area in more detail either through the use of photographs and digital maps, or by going on a field trip to explore the area for themselves. Differentiated worksheets are provided to support these activities.

My Address
The final lesson in this series consolidates what your class have learnt about where they live. During the slideshow presentation, they will find out what an address is and why it is useful, before working out what their own address is. This lesson gives your class the chance to locate their house on a digital map and use explore the geographical features they can spot around their street.
During their independent learning activities, they can then bring together everything they have learnt to answer the question 'Where do I live?' in a variety of ways. Differentiated worksheets and an Address Guide are provided.
You can then wrap up the scheme of work with a fun End of Unit Quiz to assess their understanding.
