This scheme focuses on different types of communities and looks at ways in which people can help and support each other, as well as taking care of our surrounding environment.

A Knowledge Organiser is available to support the learning in this scheme. It is included in the Complete Series download or can be purchased individually.

You might also be interested in our ESR scheme, 'Being Kind to You and Me' which helps your class identify different ways we can be kind to one another, and the effects that this kindness has on other people and ourselves.

#TheCompleteSeries5lessons

Over these five lessons, children will find out what a community is, and think about which communities they belong to. They will first focus on their classroom as a community and the rules and responsibilities they have within this community. Children will then think about how they can help people in the different communities that they belong to, as well as how they can take care of their surrounding environment. In the final lesson, children will prepare for moving into Year 2, and think about the new feelings and responsibilities this will bring.

Everything you need to teach these five engaging PSHE lessons is included! For each lesson, there is a detailed lesson plan with differentiated activities, a high-quality slideshow, and all the printable resources required.

#Lesson1Whatisacommunity

In this first lesson, children find out what a community is, and explore different types of communities. This includes people who live in the same area, who work or learn together, who share the same interests, or who share the same faith.

Children will consider what communities they are part of, and why communities are important. In their independent activities, children draw communities that they are part of and complete sentences about them. In the alternative activity, children work together in groups to discuss and sort photo cards according to what type of community group they show.

In their independent activities, they explore why these rules and responsibilities are important, and what might happen if we didn't have them. In the FSD? activity, children are assigned specific classroom jobs for a week!

Alternatively, for a rich discussion activity, children complete jigsaws and discuss what community is shown, who needs help, and what help is being offered.

During this lesson, children look at how living things in the environment are connected. They learn that our actions can help or harm the environment and the living things within it.

Children conduct an environment survey to find out how their school looks after the environment and identify what else they could do to care for it. If you are looking for a practical activity, why not plant herbs or flowers in your school environment to lift people’s moods, provide homes for insects, and attract birds, bees and butterflies.

Encourage your class to engage with the environment with this thoughtfully planned KS1 PSHE pack which includes a high-quality slideshow, detailed lesson plan and printable, differentiated resources.

After discussing targets for next year as a class, in their independent activities, children create a personal passport to Year 2 which contains important information about themselves, their strengths and their targets. In the alternative activity, children use sentence starters to further articulate how they are feeling about moving into Year 2.
