This lesson teaches your class to identify the value of each digit in numbers with up to three decimal places. They will read decimals in words and numerals, and use their place value knowledge to start comparing numbers with up to three decimal places. The main activity has a fun board game to further challenge their decimal place value understanding, as well as fun game that challenges children to compete to create the highest number they can from digits they generate themselves.

Ordering Decimals
Children will consolidate their decimal place value understanding in this lesson as they start to order and compare sets of numbers with up to three decimal places. Finding Averages
The final lesson in this series puts rounding decimals into real-life contexts in this lesson as they apply a variety of maths skills to find averages, rounding the answer to the nearest tenth or whole number when needed. The slides go through simple examples of how to do this, using calculators to support their calculations, before challenging children to gather and interpret their own data in the same way during their independent learning. There are also sets of data ready to be analysed in the alternative activity.
