Where do I live? - The Complete Series (5 lessons)

The first lesson in this countries and continents KS1 series of lessons explores planet Earth and its continents and oceans. Your class will learn the world is split into seven continents and five oceans. They will practice naming and locating the continents and oceans as well as locating the UK is on a world map. Your class will have the opportunity to create an information wheel to describe which planet, continent, country and house they live in or complete a continents and oceans worksheet.

This United Kingdom KS1 lesson teaches your class about the countries that make up the UK and gives them the challenge of identifying the capital city of each one. They will explore each of the capital cities in detail and identify the national flags of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. When working independently they will read through information sheets and play a memory game or annotate a map of the UK and create their countries flag.

Now that your class can identify the four countries of the UK and their capital cities, they will investigate each country in more detail. This lesson will teach your class about the physical and human geography of each country in the United Kingdom, from national flowers and animals to mountains, landscapes and settlements.

When working independently your class will create fact sheets or develop their speaking, listening and observation skills.

This lesson brings your class closer to home as they investigate their local area. Your class will learn the difference between villages, towns and cities before using maps to explore the area they live in. They will find out what geographical features there are around their local area.

The final lesson in this series consolidates what your class have learnt about where they live. They will find out what an address is and why it is useful before working out what their own address is. This lesson gives your class the chance to locate their house on a map. By the end of this series of lessons your class will be able to answer the question 'Where do I live?' in a variety of ways.
