What should children learn in Year 5 Maths?
In Year 5 Maths, children build greater fluency, independence and confidence as they tackle increasingly complex mathematical ideas. They work with larger numbers, develop efficient mental and written calculation methods and deepen their understanding of multiplication, division, fractions, decimals and percentages. Help children work confidently with numbers to at least 1,000,000, including reading, writing, ordering, comparing and rounding numbers and interpreting negative numbers in context. Children should develop increasingly efficient mental and written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, while exploring factors, multiples, prime numbers, square numbers and cube numbers.

Deepen children's understanding of fractions by comparing and ordering fractions, identifying equivalent fractions and developing strategies for calculating with them.
