Become confident with linking multiplication and division in this Maths scheme of work for Year 2. Your class will solve multiplication and division problems in a range of exciting concepts.
Become confident with linking multiplication and division in this Maths scheme of work for Year 2. Your class will solve multiplication and division problems in a range of exciting concepts.
They will investigate if a number sentence is commutative as well as use the inverse to check their answers. These lessons are bound to improve your class’s speed and understanding of multiplication and division number sentences.
The first lesson in this week’s worth of maths lessons on multiplication and division challenges your class to explain multiplication and division as they solve problems. They will be encouraged to talk about what they have done and prove their answers. They will make predictions about the answer, including its value compared to the numbers in the question.
The second lesson in this set of maths lessons for Year 2 encourages your class to use counting in multiples or their knowledge of arrays to prove their answers to number problems. They will also be challenged to use number facts to predict answers to questions, including those involving missing number sentences.
The third lesson in this series challenges your class to explore if multiplication and division number sentences are commutative. They will rearrange number sentences, using bead strings and arrays to check if they are commutative. This lesson will encourage your class to make links between addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as they explore commutativity.
The forth lesson in this multiplication and division scheme of work for Year 2 challenges your class to solve division number sentences before using multiplication to check their answers. To help them understand the relationship between the two number sentences your class will think of stories to illustrate the number sentences.
The final lesson in this series challenges the children to apply their maths skills when solving multiplication and division word problems. They will read the problems and talk about what they mean before writing them as number sentences. The children will need to work systematically as they solve the problems.
