Using Objects 1

What does one more mean? What does one less mean? The slides explain this in simple terms and get your class practically finding the answers. During this teaching input your children will be given a range of one more and one less problems that encourage them to think carefully about what the question is asking. Following this, challenge your class to attempt two of the four included activities.

Using Objects 2

This lesson gives your class the opportunity to consolidate their understanding of how to find one more and one less. They will continue to work practically by counting out objects to solve problems.

Number Lines 1

How can we use a number line to solve a problem? This lesson gets the children working out answers to problems using number lines. The slides explain this in simple terms and show your class how to record the value of the jump on the number line. After the teaching input, your class will access two of the four included activities. The activities have a mixture of one more and one less questions.

Number Lines 2

This lesson gives your class the chance to consolidate their understanding of using number lines to solve a problem. During the input they will work out answers to problems using numbered, tabbed and blank number lines. After this, your class will access two of the four included activities that have a mixture of one more and one less questions.

Solving Problems

This final one more and one less lesson gets your children applying their knowledge of addition and subtraction to solving problems. They will be encouraged to use different methods to solve problems including using objects, bead strings, number lines and counting on and back. Challenge your class to work out what the missing operation is in number sentences and to find out how many items were purchased on a shopping trip.
