The first lesson in this series gives your class plenty of opportunities to name and identify different parts of their bodies, from the tops of their heads to the tips of their toes and everything in between, all through a variety of fun activities.
This lesson starts with an activity to identify body parts through covered images before looking at which parts of our bodies we use for different activities, such as walking, hopping, reading, and many more.
This lesson introduces your class to the five senses before looking in more detail at the sense of sight. Your class will think about what our sense of sight allows us to do, as well as why it is important for safety. There is also the opportunity to use their sense of sight to look carefully at pictures and find objects.
After recapping what the five different senses are, your class will explore the sense of touch. They will learn how their whole bodies can experience touch but that it is our hands that are most used to feel objects for a variety of different purposes. They will also use appropriate vocabulary to describe the properties of different materials based on how they feel.
This lesson looks at the sense of smell and encourages your class to think about what we use this important sense for. There is also the opportunity to find out lots of interesting facts about smell and noses, as well as identifying objects by their smell.
This delicious lesson explores the sense of taste and encourages your class to think of words that describe a variety of flavours, including sweet, salty, bitter and sour. They can then discuss which flavours they like most and least, as well as taste test some different foods to explore their flavours.
The final lesson in this series starts by recapping the four senses we have discovered already and then goes on to look at the sense of hearing. After exploring why the sense of hearing is important, your children can take a fun sound test to see if they can identify different sounds, as well as seeing if they can identify their classmates from the sound of their voice. There is also the opportunity to recap each of the five senses to consolidate what they have learnt about their bodies.
