Key Stage 2 Finite Planet ESR Year 3 Year 4

Use this three-lesson Year 3/4 ESR scheme of work to explore each word in the phrase: reduce, reuse, recycle.

#TheCompleteSeries3lessons

Teach your class the reasons why recycling is important and how they can begin to reduce the non-recycleable waste they produce. They help each other think of alternatives and ways to avoid waste, including helping others in their school and the wider community.

This ESR scheme of work comes with all you need to educate your class on the importance of preserving, reusing and protecting the Earth’s finite resources.

#Lesson1Whatcanberecycled

Engage your class with the recycling process and investigate what happens after they put something into a recycling bin. Encourage your class to think of the different materials that products are made from and why some items are not easily recycled. Challenge the children to sort recyclable items or make their own quiz, based around recycling.

This downloadable lesson comes with a lesson plan, a slideshow presentation and printable teaching resources.

What's included:

#Lesson2Thelifeofplastic

Children look closely at plastics and the linear life of a plastic bottle. They are encouraged to discuss and investigate how plastics are made, recycled and eventually end up as waste. The children think about how important it is to reuse items as much as possible and are challenged to think of alternative uses or items they could use instead of single-use plastics.

Encourage your class to help persuade others to reduce their waste and offer alternative ways they can dispose of their waste to help protect the environment, preserve energy and resources and work together to reduce how much is being sent to landfill.
