This engaging 6-lesson Geography scheme for Year 1 introduces children to the four seasons, helping them understand how the year is organised and how weather and nature change over time. Children explore each season in turn, learning about typical weather, changes in plants and animals, and how people respond through clothing and activities. Throughout the unit, children build key vocabulary to describe seasonal features. In the final lesson, they recap and compare the seasons, identifying similarities and differences using simple comparative language.
Each of the six lessons includes a detailed plan, a set of PDF slides for the teaching input, differentiated activity ideas and printable resources.
A Knowledge Organiser is available to support the learning in this scheme. It is included in the Complete Series download or can be purchased individually.

Lesson 1: Months and Seasons
Children will explore how a year is divided into four seasons and discover that each season lasts for about three months. In their independent activities, children complete activities to practise grouping months into seasons through a range of written and matching tasks. In the alternative, practical activity, children are challenged to order themselves by birth month and identify which season their birthday falls in.
