An Introduction

The first lesson in this series introduces your class to Andy Warhol and gives them a brief overview of the Pop Art movement. They will look at what popular culture was like at the time, as well as explore the biographical details of Warhol's life.

Blotted Line Technique

This lesson looks at Warhol's early career as a commercial artist, looking specifically at his blotted line technique and how he used this to recreate the same image. Children can then have a go at using this technique for themselves, either creating their own image or using Warhol's artwork as inspiration.

Soup Cans

No scheme of work on Pop Art would be complete without a lesson on Warhol's iconic 'Campbell's Soup Can' series! Your class will think about why Warhol chose soup cans as the focus of a series of paintings and investigate how his soup cans have become one of the most recognisable art icons of all time. And, of course, your class can recreate some soup can labels of their own in a variety of ways.

Celebrities

Warhol was fascinated with the cult of celebrity and he often used this as the focus of his artwork. This lesson shows children some of Warhol's most famous celebrity portraits and demonstrates how they can make their own Warhol-Inspired portraits of modern-day celebrities.

The final lesson in this series studies some of the ways in which Warhol reflected popular culture in his artwork by portraying items that were used in commercial advertising, such as Coke bottles.
