What are some of the ethical and environmental problems associated with the bottled water industry? What are the alternatives to using bottled water? These questions are posed in the first of three lessons, where children will learn more about some of the economic and political issues around water and water scarcity. In these engaging lessons and activities, your class will not only learn about the bottled water industry and water scarcity, but also identify ways in which they can help those without water.

#TheCompleteSeries3lessons

Each lesson includes a slideshow presentation packed with information, images, discussion questions and links to further reading or videos to watch online. There's also a choice of two, differentiated learning activities with each lesson, so you can choose the ideal learning journey for your learners!

How can we do more to conserve water and help those without water? These lessons will challenge your class to consider these questions, and identify realistic actions we can all take to help.

#Lesson1BottledDrinkingWater

In this lesson, find out all about the different types of bottled water and where it comes from. Do your children think it is good value? Do they think it is ethical to produce and consume plastic bottled water? These challenging questions and more are posed as children discover extraordinary facts and statistics about the bottled water industry. After that there's a choice of differentiated activities where they may either create big, detailed diagrams showing plastic water bottle production and consumption, or create appealing designs for reusable water bottles.

This downloadable lesson includes a lesson plan, slideshow presentation and printable teaching resources.

#Lesson2WaterScarcity

Take a look at some of the difficulties faced by those living in parts of the world where water is scarce, and learn about some of the reasons why this is the case. Your children may be surprised to discover that although in many cases there is plenty of rainfall and groundwater, water is scarce due to a variety of economic and political issues. Once you've shared the included slideshow and discussed the challenging questions it includes, choose from either of the two included activities where children may gain a greater insight into the difficulties faced, particularly by women and children, in water-scarce regions.

This downloadable lesson includes a lesson plan, slideshow presentation and printable teaching resources.

#Lesson3Whatcanwedoaboutwaterscarcity

In this, the third of three 'Water In Our World' lessons, children will recall what they have already learnt about water conservation and water scarcity, then go on to learn about the work done by water charities and NGOs. Challenge your class to consider what they can do themselves to help others in water-scarce regions, then undertake either of the two included activities: plan fundraising and awareness-raising activities for a water charity of your choice, or identify and discuss ways in which we can all help those in water-scarce regions.
