This lesson uses fraction walls to help your class understand the relationship between quarters, halves, eighths and sixteenths. It also challenges them to find simple equivalences, such as six eighths and three quarters. There is even the chance to play ‘Fractions Snap’ to help them recognise equivalent fractions in a fun way!

Now that your children are more familiar with certain fractions and their equivalents, this lesson challenges them to put a variety of fractions in order from smallest to largest. They will also place fractions on a number line to help them work out their value.

This lesson allows your class to put their knowledge of fractions into action as they use what they know to solve a variety of problems. These include finding fractions of numbers and objects, ordering fractions and answering true or false questions.

#Lesson5AddingandSubtracting

The final lesson in this series looks a little more closely at how to add and subtract fractions. It challenges your class to think about what happens when the answer to an addition calculation is an improper fraction and teaches them how to convert this into a mixed number fraction, as well as how to convert a mixed number fraction to an improper fraction to make calculations easier. There is also the chance to show off their skills at finding equivalent fractions by finding equivalent addition and subtraction statements.
