This Diary Entries KS2 English planning pack is inspired by the events of the dyslexia-friendly book, 'White Feather' by Catherine and David MacPhail. The story is set at the end of World War 1, and is an engaging thriller with intertwining perspectives. (Please note: it is assumed that children have read the book prior to beginning this scheme of work.)

If you are looking for more World War 1 themed resources, take a look at our KS2 History scheme, 'World War 1', or our KS2 Art scheme, 'In Flanders Fields'.

Your Year 5 children will first develop their skills of deduction and inference, as well as exploring characters' differing viewpoints of an event, before moving on to identifying the features of a diary entry. Armed with this knowledge and their understanding of the events in 'White Feather', children will then gather ideas for, and write a series of, diary entries from a character's point of view.

Each of the lessons within this Diary Entries KS2 planning pack contains everything you need for a successful English session - a detailed, easy-to-follow plan, a set of slides for the teaching input, and differentiated worksheets and activity ideas.
