The place value of digits are the focus of this Year 3 Maths lesson plan pack and resources. Teach your class all about digit place value and how to read and write numbers up to 1000 in numerals and in words. The included slides clearly explain how to partition a three-digit number into hundreds, tens and ones. They also include challenging questions for your pupils to answer, all about the value of each digit in a three digit number. During the teacher's input and during either of the differentiated activities, children may put what they've just learned into practice as they recognise the value of digits and order numbers from smallest to largest.

Using dienes blocks as a visual representation, the slides give children plenty of opportunities to practise this before they either complete a series of diagrams to demonstrate their knowledge, or answering questions where the numbers are expressed in words.

With this counting in multiples place value Maths lesson plan pack for Year 3, children undertake a variety of activities to practise counting in 4s, 8s and other multiples – including counting in 100s. The slides use number chains to with missing numbers to generate discussions and get children to work out which numbers are missing based on the information they have. They can then try this for themselves using the differentiated missing number chains, or order sets of number cards. For either activity, children will need to identify the rule in the pattern and ascertain which numbers in the pattern are missing.
