Find fractions of amounts, as well as recognise and write unit fractions and non-unit fractions, with these ready-to-teach Year 3 fractions lesson plans, slides, worksheets and differentiated resources.
In this five-lesson scheme of work for Year 3, your children will learn all about recognising, finding, writing and comparing fractions. They begin by identifying, recording and counting in tenths, before moving on to finding unit fractions of quantities, recognising simple equivalences, and learning how to compare and order fractions. Finally, children will apply all of their knowledge and understanding of fractions by solving a variety of fractions problems.
Counting in Tenths
What are tenths? Find and recognise tenths of a whole number, practise counting in tenths and write and represent tenths with this ready to teach Year 3 fractions lesson plan pack, differentiated activities and resources.
What is a fraction? This, the first of five 'Finding Fractions' lessons, begins with a brief recap to help you determine your pupils' current knowledge and understanding of basic fractions, before moving on to focus specifically on tenths. In this lesson, children will learn how to write and represent tenths in pictorial form, as well as practising counting on and back in tenths. In their independent activities, children will identify and record tenths in a variety of different ways. Or if you fancy something different, in the alternative activity children can practise their recognising tenths in different forms by playing Tenths Dominoes using the included printable PDF resources.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- Differentiated worksheets
- Tenths Dominoes Cards

Fractions of Shapes and Fractions of a Set
Find fractions of shapes and fractions of a set with this ready to teach Year 3 Maths lesson plan pack, slides, fractions worksheets and printable PDF resources.
At the start of this lesson (using the included slides), your class will be reminded of what each number in a fraction represents. They will then look again at how to identify and write a fraction of a set or shape. After that, your pupils will move on to learning how to find a fraction of a set or shape where the total amount of objects or parts is a multiple of the denominator. In their independent activities, children will apply this knowledge and understanding to find fractions of various quantities.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- Differentiated worksheets

Equivalent Fractions
Teach your class how to find equivalent fractions with this Year 3 lesson plan pack, including equivalent fractions worksheets, slides, a fraction wall and a range of other resources for teaching equivalent fractions.
In this lesson, children begin to learn about equivalent fractions. They use fraction walls to understand and recognise different equivalent fractions. In their independent activities, children identify and match up a range of different equivalent fractions using a fraction wall. Alternatively, children can play a game of Snap! which will help them to get better at finding equivalent fractions in both numerical and pictorial form.
This is the third of five complete 'Finding Fractions' lesson plan packs for Year 3, which includes a whole week's worth of Year 3 fractions Maths lesson planning, ready to teach!
