This series of Year 3 'Fractions in Actions' lessons will help your class to understand what fractions are and how to use them. With an initial focus on understanding eighths, quarters and halves, and how they relate to each other, your class will then be able to use their knowledge to solve a variety of problems relating to fractions, such as adding and subtracting fractions, ordering fractions and finding fractions of numbers.

#TheCompleteSeries5lessons

With lesson plans, slides, activity ideas, differentiated worksheets and more, these KS2 'Fractions in Action' lessons for Year 3 are a great way to familiarise your class with fractions over one action-filled week!

#Lesson1Eighths

After recapping what they know about fractions, your class will start to think about eighths and how they relate to halves and quarters. They will identify what fraction of a shape is shaded and start to explore how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Differentiated worksheets
  • Fraction cards
#Lesson2FindingEquivalences

This lesson uses fraction walls to help your class understand the relationship between quarters, halves, eighths and sixteenths. It also challenges them to find simple equivalences, such as six eighths and three quarters. There is even the chance to play ‘Fractions Snap’ to help them recognise equivalent fractions in a fun way!
