This Year 2 Similes lesson introduces your class to using similes as a poetic device as they spot them in the poem ''Twas the Night Before Christmas'.

During the lesson input, the slides challenge the children to complete similes using the suggestions on the board. They then work independently to write some Christmas poetry. They will create a list poem using similes to describe St. Nicholas's appearance using the provided writing frames to support their structure.

I was very tired after the end of a very long half term all online, through virtual school. With my staff down also due to COVID and with poetry looming, these resources were perfect for us while understaffed and online in teaching poetry and Christmas all in one! We used the worksheets either for parents to print at home or for children to access through our online platforms with touchscreen. Perfect thanks!
