#TheCompleteSeries5lessons

Children will learn to read 'quarter past/to' and 'half past' times, as well as find times which are five minutes earlier or later. They'll even learn how to 'hear' the time in a fun final lesson about clock chimes!

Each of these five time lessons comes with an easy-to-follow lesson plan, a whole-class slideshow for the teaching input, differentiated activity ideas and a range of printable resources, including worksheets, clock faces, challenges and much more to support your children as they carry out their independent learning activities.

#Lesson1OClockClocks

Start the week's Maths learning with this ready-to-teach O'Clock Clocks Year 2 Maths lesson to help your KS1 class recap how to tell the time to the nearest hour. The included slideshow presentation includes loads of questions in which children must read, write, say and draw 'o'clock' times.

They'll go on to learn about how the hour hand points to each hour on the clock face twice per day, work out one hour earlier or later than given times, and consider what types of activity they might be doing at different times of the day. After that, there's a choice of differentiated learning activities where children can put it all together and consolidate the day's learning through similar activities to those shown in the teaching input.

This O'Clock Clocks Year 2 planning pack comes with a lesson plan, a slideshow, differentiated activity ideas and a set of printable resources.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Blank Clock Faces sheet
  • Differentiated worksheets
  • O'Clock cards
#Lesson2HalfPastQuarterPastQuarterTo

Building on your Year 2 children's prior learning, this lesson focuses on reading, saying, writing and drawing half past, quarter past and quarter to times. The included slides provide lots of questions where children can read both written times and clock faces, then attempt matching or 'odd one out' activities.

As with all of the lessons in this KS1 'How can we tell the time?' planning pack, there's a choice of differentiated learning activities, where children may either read, write or draw times in a card game, or select appropriate times to fill in the gaps in a diary entry.

Included within this pack is a lesson plan, a slideshow for the teaching input and a range of printable resources.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Tell The Time game cards
  • Diary sheet
  • Diary cards
#Lesson3FiveMinutesLater

Building on your Year 2 class's growing time knowledge, this KS1 Maths lesson briefly recaps reading 'o'clock' and 'half past' times, then builds on this information by explaining how to find, read, say, write and draw some times which are five minutes later.

The included slides focus on 'five past' times (e.g. 'five past one') and 'thirty-five' times (e.g. 'ten thirty-five') – but there's also additional teaching materials to use with your higher-attaining learners, too: teach them about 'five to' times (e.g. 'five to ten') and how to read them.

This Year 2 Time lesson includes an easy-to-follow lesson plan, a set of slides for the teaching input, differentiated activity ideas, and a range of printable resources.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Blank Clock Faces sheet
  • Additional input sheet
  • Differentiated worksheets
  • Five Minute Challenge cards
#Lesson4CountingMinutes

As well as recapping prior learning about time, this lesson's included slides build on your class's growing fluency with reading analogue clocks by getting them counting minutes around a clock face. In five-minute jumps, they will practise counting the minutes between a quarter of an hour and half an hour.

After that, there's a choice of differentiated learning activities where children may either work independently to practise this new skill, or play a group game to consolidate their learning about time.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Differentiated worksheets
  • Game cards
#Lesson5ClockChimes

In this unusual KS1 Maths lesson, your Year 2 children will take a break from reading, writing and drawing the time and instead focus on hearing the time. The included slides describe how, and why, public town clocks and church clocks chime. A set of audio files is included too, so children can practise listening to, and interpreting, 'quarter past', 'half past', 'quarter to' and 'o'clock' times such as those of the Elizabeth clock tower at the palace of Westminster – that's 'Big Ben', by the way!

This fun Year 2 Time planning pack provides everything you need to deliver this fun Time lesson to your class, including an easy-to-follow lesson plan, a slideshow for the teaching input, audio files, differentiated activity ideas, and a range of printable resources.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Big Ben' audio tracks
  • Differentiated worksheets
