Key Stage 2 Fractions, Decimals and Percentages Measurement Maths Year 4

It's a mixed bag for this scheme of work as your children recap their fractions knowledge and learn about analogue and digital time. They will find explore the effect of dividing one- and two-digit numbers by 10 and 100, expressing these as both a fraction and a decimal. They will also explore equivalent fractions before moving on to recap their time-telling skills.

#TheCompleteSeries5lessons

With lesson plans, slides, activity ideas, differentiated worksheets and many other helpful resources, this scheme of work provides you with a whole weeks worth of Maths planning, with you having to put in only a fraction of the time and effort yourself!

#Lesson1TenthsandHundredths

The first lesson in this series helps your class identify the value of tenths and hundredths and shows them how to recognise these values both as a fraction and a decimal.

They will have opportunities to convert fractions to decimals and vice versa, as well as practising identifying the value of any digit in numbers with up to two decimal places.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Differentiated worksheets
  • Number machine sheet
  • Number machine digit strips
#Lesson2Dividingby10and100

This lesson explores the effect of dividing one- and two-digit numbers by 10 and 100, building on their understanding of tenths and hundredths.

They will practise dividing a variety of numbers by 10 and 100 and expressing the answer as a fraction and a decimal.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Differentiated worksheets
  • Number sentence cards
  • Blank number sentence cards
#Lesson3EquivalentFractions

This lesson starts by exploring the relationship between tenths and hundredths before moving on to explore other families of equivalent fractions.

They will explore which fractions are equivalent and learn to look at the patterns in equivalent fractions.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Differentiated worksheets
  • Fraction wall chart
  • Fraction bingo
#Lesson4AnalogueTime

Moving on from fractions, this lesson looks at analogue clocks and gives your class the chance to practise reading the time to the nearest minute.

They will firstly recap what we mean by 'half an hour', 'quarter of an hour', etc. before reading and writing the time for themselves.

There is also the option of solving some word problems relating to calculating intervals of time.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Differentiated worksheets
  • Word problem cards
  • Clock cards
  • Blank clock cards
#Lesson5DigitalTime

What is the difference between an analogue and a digital clock?

Your class will recap their understanding on digital time in this lesson as they practise reading the time on digital clocks to the nearest minute and thinking of different ways of expressing the same time.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
