Teacher Benefits
Teacher Benefits
- Save time and simplify your Maths planning
With every lesson clearly sequenced and ready to teach, our Maths schemes take the stress out of planning and ensure smooth progression from one objective to the next. - Ensure National Curriculum coverage
Each unit in our Year 1 Maths curriculum has been carefully designed to meet National Curriculum objectives, giving you complete confidence that every skill and concept is taught and revisited. - Support for every teacher, every class
Clear explanations and built-in differentiation make our Maths lessons easy to deliver for ECTs and experienced teachers alike, supporting adaptive teaching across a range of abilities. - Build confidence and fluency for all pupils
From reasoning and problem-solving to fluency practice, each lesson helps children develop mathematical understanding in engaging, hands-on ways that make learning stick.
This challenging scheme of work focuses on challenging your class to identify shapes. It is perfect if you’ve already done some work with your Year 1 class on the properties of shape, and want children to consolidate and extend their learning. It introduces some new vocabulary to describe familiar 2D and 3D shapes, and challenges children to identify, describe and sort shapes according to their properties. There’s also lots of opportunities for practical learning - making, deconstructing, decorating and combining shapes.
Each downloadable lesson in this five-lesson KS1 Maths planning pack includes a plan, slides for the teaching input and a range of colourful printable resources.
Flat or solid?
This lesson gives your class the opportunity to explore the question 'Is this shape flat or solid?' Give your children a chance to show what they already know by naming, describing and sorting some familiar 2D and 3D shapes in engaging lesson. Your class will then be able to work on one of the differentiated learning activities that include practising reading, tracing or writing the names of shapes as well as finding and labelling them.
This downloadable lesson includes a lesson plan, slideshow presentation and printable teaching resources.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- Worksheet
- ‘Shape names’ sheets
What are polyhedrons?
What are polyhedrons? Discover the answer to this question and build your Year 1s confidence with 2D and 3D shapes. Your class will begin by recapping the learning from the previous lesson, then they will build on this by looking at the properties of 3D shapes. Following this, children can work through one of the differentiated practical learning activities.
This downloadable lesson contains a lesson plan, slideshow presentation and printable teaching resources.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- ‘Shape names’ sheets
- Photo sheet
Flat Faces
This Year 1 shapes lesson opens by getting your class to describe and sort 3D shapes according to their properties. Describing shapes by their properties can be a tricky task, so this lesson gives your children the opportunity to use a range of mathematical vocabulary and develop their confidence. This lesson focuses on just one shape property: the flat faces of shapes. By focusing on this property, children are able to build on their learning about the properties of 2D shapes.
This downloadable lesson includes a lesson plan, slideshow presentation and downloadable teaching resources.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- Polyhedrons picture mat
- 3-D shapes picture mat
- Link to video
- Photo sheet
Curved Surfaces
As with the previous learning in this series of lessons, your children will look at and explore the properties of some 3D shapes by looking at their flat faces. The slides and teaching input further develop their understanding by looking at 3D shapes with curved surfaces, too.
This downloadable lesson comes with a lesson plan, slideshow presentation and printable teaching resources. Included with this lesson are three differentiated activities in which your children can apply their learning by naming, identifying and using shapes.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- 3-D picture mat
- 3-D shapes properties cards
- Polyhedron properties cards
- Links to videos
- Photo sheet
3D Shape Pictures
This lesson challenges your class to make 3D shape pictures. Your children may have previously made patterns by combining 2D shapes, and this lesson builds on that skill by challenging your children to make patterns and models using 3D shapes. The included activities provide opportunities for children to consolidate their learning as they play and explore, combining, stacking or taking apart 3D shapes.
This downloadable lesson includes a lesson plan, slideshow presentation and printable teaching resources.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
