#TheCompleteSeries5lessons
Within this series, there are five detailed lesson plans, engaging slide and a range of printables for differentiated independent learning tasks. By the end of the week your children will have read, said and learned the names of a range of shapes, identified their faces, edges and corners, and made 2D and 3D shapes using a variety of techniques and materials.
#Lesson1Make2DShapes
This Year 1 2D shape lesson starts your week’s learning by focusing closely on the sides of common 2-D shapes. Your children will be challenged to use a growing range of vocabulary to describe and distinguish differences between shapes. Following this, get your class working practically, making shapes by tearing, cutting, folding or colouring, depending on which of the included activities you choose to do!
This downloadable lesson contains a lesson plan, slideshow presentation and printable teaching resources.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- ‘Making shapes’ printable spinner
#Lesson2Polygons
Continuing with a focus on 2D shapes, this Year 1 polygons Maths lesson explores in greater detail the differences between polygons and shapes with curved edges. Your children are then challenged to visualise ways in which shapes can be constructed by connecting or drawing lines. The included lesson plan guides you through the teaching input, then describes a range of differentiated learning activities where your class will construct 2D shapes using a range of maths equipment and art materials.
This downloadable lesson comes with a versatile lesson plan, a slideshow presentation and printable teaching resources.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- Photo sheet
- 2-D Shape Fans' sheet
- ‘Shape Outlines’ sheet
- ‘Shape Labels’ sheet
#Lesson32DShapeArt
Build on your class’s growing knowledge of the properties of shape by challenging them to rotate and combine shapes to make tessellating patterns and works of art! The slides describe some ways in which children may do this. Following this input, get hands-on by making pictures and patterns during one of the choice of learning activities included.
This downloadable lesson comes with a lesson plan, a slideshow presentation and printable teaching resources.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- ‘2-D Shape Fans’ sheet
- ‘Nature Shapes’ sheet
#Lesson43DShapes
This Year 1 3D shapes lesson challenges your class to identify and name a variety of common 3D shapes. See if they can locate the faces of shapes and use mathematical vocabulary to compare the flat faces of some 3D shapes to 2D shapes. The included slides challenge your children to look closely at the ways in which 3D shapes are constructed from flat faces or curved surfaces. Following this, explore how 3D shapes are constructed during one of the two practical shape-making activities.
This downloadable lesson comes with a lesson plan, slideshow presentation and printable teaching resources.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- ‘3-D Shape Fans’ sheet
#Lesson5EdgesandCorners
The final lesson of this series exploring properties of 3D shapes focuses on edges and corners of some common 3D shapes. Your children are then challenged to construct their own models of shapes by connecting materials to make the edges and corners. As with all of the lessons in this series, there is a choice of differentiated learning activities.
