#TheCompleteSeries5lessons
This fractions of numbers Year 2 scheme of work includes five ready-to-teach lessons that will help your class become more familiar with fractions in a variety of contexts. They will learn how to identify what fraction of a set of objects is shaded, how to find fractions of numbers, how to count in fractions on a number line, and much more!
Containing five completely planned lessons, including detailed planning, differentiated Maths activities, slideshows for the teaching input and a range of bright and engaging printable worksheets and resources, this ‘Can we find fractions of numbers?’ KS1 scheme of work contains everything you need for a whole week of Maths teaching.
#Lesson1FractionsofQuantities
Teach children methods for finding fractions of quantities with this Year 2 lesson plan pack. Recap what they already know about fractions, then choose sets of objects which represent written fractions.
In the first lesson of this series of five, children will identify what fractions are and recall what they already know about fractions. They will then go on to explore which visual representation out of a choice of three represents a written fraction of a quantity. In their independent learning, children will undertake a variety of challenges to refresh their knowledge and understanding of fractions.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- Differentiated challenge cards
- Differentiated Fair Farmers sheets
- Differentiated sharing cards
- Differentiated animal stock sheets
#Lesson2WritingFractions
Teach children about writing fractions to describe pictures showing fractions of a set of objects, and help them begin to recognise the equivalence of 2/4 and 1/2. This lesson plan pack includes simple fractions worksheets and a choice of differentiated learning activities.
In this lesson, children will explore how to write fractions to reflect a visual representation of a fraction. Children will be shown how to work out what fraction of a set of objects is shaded when there are e.g. three circled and nine not circled, using manipulatives to support them if necessary.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- Shape cards
- Picture cards
- Differentiated worksheets
- Example card
- Differentiated question cards
#Lesson3WritingFractionSentences
Explore how to find fractions of numbers, then write fraction sentences, e.g. '1/3 of 18 = 6'. This Year 2 Maths lesson plan pack explains how to do this in the included slides. There are activities and worksheets included, too.
During this lesson's teaching input children will be shown some different strategies for how to solve fraction sentence problems such as these. In their independent learning, they can play a fun board game to help practise this process.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- Differentiated game boards
- Differentiated game sheets
- Differentiated fraction cards
- Differentiated worksheets
#Lesson4FractionsofAmountsWordProblems
Teach your class how to solve a variety of fractions of amounts word problems by recapping what they have previously learnt, and by sharing problem-solving strategies.
In this lesson, children will consolidate what they have learnt so far about fractions to solve a variety of fractions of amounts word problems. The slides go through several examples together before challenging children to solve problems independently. All the questions are themed around farming! There is also the option for children to write their own fraction word problems from a given visual representation.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- Differentiated worksheets
- Picture cards
#Lesson5FractionsHalvesandQuarters
Identify the equivalence between the fractions halves and quarters with this Year 2 Maths lesson planning pack. Teach children how to spot equivalent fractions and how to find the difference between two fractions using number lines.
The final lesson in this KS1 series starts by teaching children to identify the equivalence between one half and two quarters. They then go on to look at how numbers can be split into fractions. They will explore number lines where numbers are split into halves and quarters, then look at how to find the difference between two fractions, counting up and down on the number line as they do so.
What's included:
- Lesson plan
- Slides
- Activity ideas
- Fraction cards
- Differentiated number lines
- Differentiated number cards
- Game cards
- Game board
