Children are challenged to recognise coins and banknotes, including recognising descriptions of the money. They are challenged to order and identify money from a group and use their understanding and reasoning skills to begin to identify equivalent amounts of money.

Have your class practise their adding strategies while calculating the total amounts of a group of pounds or pence. Challenge the children to add various coins and notes together to reach a total amount and compare these amounts with each other.

Challenge your class to think about how they can make the same amount of money using different combinations of coins. They are challenged to think about which coins they are using and all the different ways they can reach a desired amount.
