Let's count in twos, fives and tens

Count in twos

The first lesson in this series introduces your class to counting in twos in a variety of different ways, such as using a counting stick and puppet, counting in pairs as well as counting objects that represent two. The children will enjoy fun activities counting in twos using picture cards to find the answer, as well as an exciting fishing game that reinforces counting in twos and ordering multiples of two.

Caterpillar Skip Counting

The second lesson in this series reinforces and recaps counting in twos. For this lesson, the children will practise counting forwards and backwards in twos, saying what comes next as well as working out the missing numbers. The children can also enjoy playing a fun 'counting in twos' Caterpillar Munch sequencing game. These activities will encourage noticing number patterns and cement counting in twos.

Count in Tens

The third lesson in this series introduces your class to counting in tens is a variety of different ways, such as using a hundred square and puppet, counting objects that represent ten and counting dienes blocks. The children will have opportunities to sequence missing tens numbers as well as make tens numbers using picture cards.

The fourth lesson in this series introduces your class to counting in fives in a variety of different ways, such as using a hundred square and puppet, and counting different objects that represent five. The children will enjoy a fun interactive game of counting in fives to find the missing number in order to stop the man from falling off the ladder! They can also have fun answering counting in fives questions to be the first to cross a river of crocodiles.

Mixed Counting

During the fifth and final lesson in this series, your class will continue to apply their knowledge of counting in twos, fives and tens and place value to answer and solve a range of problems. The children will enjoy finding the correct coin amounts by counting in either twos, fives or tens, as well as playing a fun shopping bingo game.
