Exploring number sequences

The first lesson of this ‘What is multiplication?’ scheme of work gets your class exploring number patterns. They will work out what the numbers in the sequence are increasing by and then continue the pattern. Your class will have the opportunity to improve their mathematical language as they explain their answers.

Multiplying by two

In the second lesson of this scheme of work for Year 2, your class will use the two times table to solve problems. They will look at multiplication number sentences and explain what they mean. They will use multiplication, repeated addition, arrays and pictures to express problems.

Multiplying by five

In the third lesson of this scheme of work for Year 2, your class will use the five times table to solve problems. They will look at multiplication number sentences and explain what they mean. They will play games and match different representations of number sentences to each other.

Multiplying by ten

In the fourth lesson of this multiplication scheme of work, your class will use the ten times table to solve problems. They will look at multiplication number sentences and explain what they mean. They will have the opportunity to play games, matching number sentences to their answers.

Lets solve problems

In the final lesson of this ‘What is multiplication?’ scheme of work for Year 2, your children will be challenged to apply their learning to solve problems. They will write multiplication number sentences, selecting the relevant information from word problems. Then they will work out the answer and explain what they have done.
